Bossier City schools celebrated “Purple Up Day” today in honor of April being military child month.

Students across the district were asked to wear purple to show support.

The event is important for civilian and military kids to understand the difficulties they go through when kids have to move or their parents get deployed.

"I think moving from one place to another uh reintegrating into a new community is often times very difficult. Military kids over time get good at it, but it's the kids who are already in the community that make it that much easier," Says Leeland Bohannon a Vice Commander.

Special guest and nickelodeon star La Tangela Newsome stopped by. Newsome wrote a book titled "Military Bratz" which is scheduled to release in June.
