Leaving the good cooking at home, customers braved the cold to find those Black Friday specials.

Toys-R-Us opened at 5 on Thanksgiving Day for patient shoppers.

"I haven't been out here long, for about an hour and a half," says Cheryl Good, customer.

Many got in and got out with their spoils.

"I came in for Leggos and the guitar, and I found the guitar that I was wanting for my granddaughter," says Patsy Barlow.

But not without some traffic jams down the aisles.

"It was a little chaotic, but I had people helping me reaching across the isles to get things, so that helped," says Sara McDermott, shopper.

Lines wrapped around several stores that were opening at 8 p.m.

At JC Penney, the manager says his crew spent months getting ready for the hot items to leave the shelves in a hurry.

"Shoes and our boots we have a great selection of boots ranging from $19.99-$39.99, 50% to 70% off,” says Randy Arnold, Store Manager at JC Penney at Regal Court. “They will fly out of here this morning, or this afternoon should I say."

That's why several shoppers have strategies to get what they want.

"I'm just here to get a jacket, some clothes and that's about it, and some shoes," says Robert Jackson.

"I actually bring usually more than one person with me and we each divide and conquer. Like she gets some of the stuff we each need and then we meet up at the registers, and divvy it up and cash out," says Krista Madjerick.

Most stores will stay open through Friday night to give customers more than 24 hours of shopping.
