A parade of witnesses testified this afternoon in the sentencing hearing of Alasundria Avery.

Avery pleaded guilty in Dec. to manslaughter in the Oct. 2011 death of her 1-year-old daughter.

Avery was arrested the day after the child's death and charged with 2nd Degree Murder.  Her charges were later upped to 1st Degree Murder, and in Dec. 2012 the Caddo District Attorney's Office announced it would seek the death penalty.

It is unclear at this point why the prosecution accepted the lesser plea, but testimony today by defense witnesses indicates there might have been another person involved in the child's death.

NBC 6 has a reporter in the courtroom and will bring the latest details as they become available.
