A past Social Sciences Department head at Southern University-Shreveport is being recognized for his contributions to the community.

Willie Burton, an author and former Caddo School Board president, will be honored this afternoon with an exhibit that marks the inception of a permanent collection at the school of his memorabilia.

Items on display will include Burton's works, manuscripts, notes and calendars he created over the years.

The event will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the SUSLA library on 3050 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.
