Breast Lift
Factors impacting both the breast’s and nipple’s shape are pregnancy, nursing, weight loss and gains and forces of gravity. These stresses usually cause elongated breasts with wide and lower nipples.  In other words breast go from the” shape of a cone” to a “tube sock” over time. Correction of this shape and reduction of the diameter of the nipple areolar complex often requires a breast lift.  (The areola is the darker skin surrounding the nipple.)

Breast implants can be inserted in conjunction with mastopexy to improve the size, shape, projection and upper pole fullness of the breast.  It is more common to perform a breast augmentation with a breast lift.

The best candidates for a breast lift in Shreveport, or neighboring communities are healthy, emotionally stable women who are realistic about what the surgery can accomplish.  Also it is preferable that a woman have a stable body weight and has had all her children.  The best results are accomplished in women with small to medium size, sagging breasts, but with proper support the shape of even larger breast can maintain with acceptable appearance.  Many times a woman will elect to have an implant placed under the breast to augment the shape and size of the breast.  Natural breasts, many times, are unable to hold the projected and rounded shape in the upper breast over a time.  This is due to the fatty nature of the breast which often doubles after pregnancy.

Breast Reduction
A breast reduction is designed to reduce the size of the breast and eliminate excessive weight that maybe causing symptoms of neck and shoulder discomfort or excessive sweating and rashes underneath the breast.

Who is a candidate for breast reduction?

The best candidates for breast reduction are women troubled by very large, sagging breasts that restrict their activities and cause them physical discomfort. Breast reduction is typically performed for physical relief rather than just a cosmetic improvement. A breast reduction usually shouldn’t be performed until a woman reaches age 18 – 20 and her breasts have fully developed; however, the procedure can be performed earlier if large breasts are causing significant physical discomfort or interferes with social engagement. It’s important the candidate is mature enough to fully understand the procedure and have realistic expectations about the results.

Body Contours

Arm Lift
Brachioplasty or Arm Lift

Arm lift removes the embarrassing flab and skin from the upper arm, if your not a candidate for Smartlipo.

An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure used to reshapes the under portion of the upper arm.   Weight fluctuations, aging, and genetics can cause your upper arms to have a drooping, sagging appearance.   Exercise will strengthen the underlying muscle of the upper arm, but can’t address the laxity of excess skin and the localized fatty deposits.  Arm lifts can correct these problems.

An Arm Lift:
Reduce fat and the redundant skin between the underarm and the elbow
The arm is reshaped which results in smoother skin and contours
Toned and a proportionate appearance is restored

How to Get Rid of Cellulite using Cellulaze

Are you struggling with cellulites or what is commonly known as the ‘dimpled orange’ or ‘cottage cheese’ look on your arms, stomach, thighs and buttocks? If yes, you should definitely consider getting the Cellulaze in Shreveport services offered by Bridges to Beauty. With Dr. R. McIntyre Bridges, Jr. as the head doctor, you have his well over three decades’ worth of experience in the field of plastic surgery to give you the results that you want.

What are cellulites?
Cellulite is the dimpled, wavy skin irregularity usually found in the upper leg, arms, stomach and buttocks. It is predominately found in women. Cellulite affects the vast majority of women, usually after puberty. Many believe cellulite to be a fat problem that can be eliminated through diet and exercise. As you may have learned through experience, you can lessen the appearance of cellulites by losing weight, but you can’t get rid of it completely. And crash diets can actually make it worse.

Liposculpting can be done under general anesthesia with the patient asleep or under local anesthesia with sedation. Through a tiny incision, a fluid is infiltrated into the fat. This fluid has anesthetic agents, and saline. This mixture is called Tumescence fluid. It limits bruising and blood loss in all forms of liposculpting. Then a narrow tube or laser fiber (SmartLipo™) is inserted to break up or melt the fat in the fibrous tissue. Next the fat is removed with a vacuum. Following this the residual tissue is felt to see if fibrous lumps exist. A power assisted lipo is used to break this fibrous tissue. The area are manually massaged to render a smooth result.  After eliminating the excess fat and breaking up the fibrous tissue, the incisions are left open compression dressing and bandages are applied. Allowing fluid to escape from the liposculpted area is important to prevent fluid collections underneath the skin.

Liposculpting can last  several hours depending upon the amount of fat to be removed.  Liposuction surgery is an excellent procedure that can benefit those who want to remove unattractive fatty deposits.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

SmartLipo | A Safe and Low Impact Liposculpting Solution

One of the first questions we are usually greeted with is, what is SmartLipo™? In short, Smartlipo is a form of liposculpting used to contour your body’s shape.  SmartLipo uses a laser to melt the fat and improve the tightness of the skin in areas improving the look of some of the most. Despite the marketing hype associated with any new form of Liposculpting you should not believe SmartLipo™ is the magic bullet for everybody.

SmartLipo™ is definitely not for everybody. The choice of a body contouring technique depends upon the amount, shape and distribution of fat as well as the quality of the skin overlying the fatty area. Body contouring can requires more than just liposculpting to obtain the desired results. Contouring for you might involve a particular type liposculpting method or require a more extensive surgery for the best obtainable results.

I can give you the best surgical options to get you closer to your desired shape. Liposculpting tools come in many forms and types. There’s liposuction canulas, ultrasonic lipolysis, power assisted liposuction or laser-assisted liposuction, SmartLipo™. The SmartLipo™ is minimally invasive but is only applicable to individuals who don’t have a great deal of fat to remove and have reasonable skin elasticity. You can be up to 25 lb over your ideal body weight and be an “ideal” candidate but I have found if you don’t exercise and eat right, 25 lbs is actually stretching it.

Here at Bridges to Beauty, we have been performing Tummy Tucks at our Shreveport location for over two decades! Tummy tucks are a popular and safe solution when dieting and exercising are not enough to take care of waistline problems. In such cases, a patient may wish to consider a tummy tuck (or abdominoplasty). A tummy tuck is the surgical removal of excess skin or fatty deposits from the abdomen, along with the re-positioning of abdomen muscles into a tighter formation. This bodily enhancement procedure is designed for those who wish to have a flatter and tighter stomach. It is also helpful in remedying the vertical separation of abdomen muscles known as diastasis, which can occur following pregnancy.

Reasons for Considering a Tummy Tuck: (Abdominoplasty)
Inability of dieting and exercise to improve the abdomen area.
Excessive accumulation of skin following weight loss.
Loss of skin elasticity or diastases (loose abdomen muscles) due to pregnancy.
The removal of unsightly skin and fat deposits as well as the proper alignment of the abdomen muscles to produce a more flattering look.

Otoplasty: Ear Surgery and Cosmetic Procedures
Surgery of the ear, also known as otoplasty, is a procedure that helps reduce protrusion of the ear away from the head. Most often, ear surgery is performed on children between the ages of four to fourteen. Ears that “stick out” are often the source of teasing and ridicule in young children. This teasing can have a devastating effect on the child’s psyche.

Otoplasty is not limited to children and may also be performed on older patients. Cosmetic procedures are available for those individuals with large ears and for those with congenital (birth) irregularities that detract from their appearance. Additionally, an individual’s ears may exhibit abnormal traits due to their genetic make-up or an accidental injury, such as losing an ear or part of an ear. Otoplasty is used successfully for each of these situations. Regardless of the procedure, patients have been pleased with the long-lasting improvements to their appearance offered by ear surgery.

Bring proportion to the face if the ears “stick out” too much. Most common surgery
Correct folded ear tips (lop ear).
Reshape long or offset earlobes.
Enhance very small ears or other congenital defects.
Remedy an accidental injury, including the loss of an ear.

Ear surgery is commonly performed under general anesthesia for children and local anesthesia for adults. The standard otoplasty procedure brings the ears closer to the head. Otoplasty begins with an incision hidden in the crease behind the ear. This incision allows the cartilage located behind the ears to be reshaped in order to position them closer to the head. The procedure takes approximately one to two hours, depending upon the extent of surgery.

There are various surgical techniques involved in correcting irregularities other than protruding ears. These techniques can be discussed with your physician during the initial consultation.

Eye Lids
Eyelid Surgery or Blepharoplasty

More than any other facial feature your eyes reveal the most about how you feel. When your eyes are bright and alert, you appear energized, well-rested, and in control. However, if you have lower-eyelid puffiness, dark circles or drooping upper lids, other may assume that you are fatigued, angry or unhappy. If you believe that your eyes are making you look tired, as or older than you really feel, cosmetic eyelid surgery (also called blepharoplasty) may be right choice for you. Eyelid surgery can remove excess fat and drooping skin of the upper eyelids, minimize bags under the eyes and tighten the lower eyelid skin. The result is a more alert and rested appearance. Essentially a crowded upper eyelid looks older and tired and an elongated bagger lower eyelid looks older and tired.

What is your service area?
We’ve been completing eyelid surgeries in Louisiana and the ARKLATEX Region for almost 30 years. That is exactly why so many of Shreveport’s and residents turn to Bridges to Beauty when they are looking for a facelift in Louisiana or East Texas. Is a facelift right for me?
Facelifts are most commonly performed on patients in the 40-70 age range. However, the procedure can produce good results for people in their 80’s as well. You may be a good candidate for a facelift if you have any of the following types of conditions:

A deep line that runs from the corner of your nose to the corner of your mouth.
Loss of a well-defined jawline.
Deep wrinkles in the cheeks and sagging skin near the cheekbones.
Loose skin, wrinkles or excess fatty tissue in the neck.

A facelift surgery is a fairly non-invasive surgery, but you will need to exercise caution if you have any of the following medical conditions.
Uncontrolled high blood pressure
Blood-clotting problems
The tendency to form excessive scars

Nose Surgery or Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty in Shreveport (also known as nose surgery) is a procedure we perform at Bridges to Beauty to reshape the nose in order to create a more pleasing look. Rhinoplasty is considered the most popular cosmetic procedure in the United States with approximately 400,000 operations performed each year. Rhinoplasty usually involves reducing the size of the nose by removing and sculpting the nasal tissues in order to enhance the facial appearance.

The results are unique to each individual, and depend upon such factors as skin condition and thickness, nasal and facial structure, genetic contributions, and age. Traditionally, a “nose job” was performed only to correct major problems. However, recent surgical innovations of Rhinoplasty in Alexandria performed in our offices in Shreveport allow for individuals to benefit from more moderate improvements from the procedure as well. In general, having nose surgery provides the patient with a better facial balance and overall appearance.

Bring a better proportion to the nose and facial features.
Reduce the size of the nose that is too large or too wide.
Correct an overly arched or “Roman” nose.
Re-form a crooked or elongated nose tip.
Restore the nose if damaged from an accident or sports injury.
Help with breathing problems by rebuilding the nasal passage.
Treat nasal deformities caused at birth.

Note: If rhinoplasty is being utilized to correct a breathing problem or nose deformity, the procedure may be covered under the patient’s insurance policy.

The procedure of rhinoplasty in Shreveport at our offices lasts from one to three hours. Dr. Bridges may elect to utilize either local or general anesthesia, depending upon the complexity of the operation.

To begin the surgery, tiny incisions are made which allow Dr. Bridges to access the underlying nasal structure. Once the skin is opened, the cartilage and bone are reshaped to form the basis for the new look. Two basic methods are utilized for performing nose surgery. These methods are referred to as the ‘open’ and the ‘closed’ techniques. The open technique allows for maximum visibility and control over the procedure. The incision used in the open technique is placed in-between the nostrils on the columella (the medial nostril strip). In the closed technique, the incisions are internal and heal faster; however, there is less surgical control over the outcome. The Dr. Bridges can discuss which technique is best when the patient arrives for the initial consultation visit.

This actually helps keep the costs of surgery lower as we don’t have to administrate all of the state related insurance issues. We will, however, file your insurance if there is a possibility that your insurance plan covers the procedure. Insurance related procedures are paid in advance to the office. Breast reductions may be covered by your Louisiana insurance company but you must call your representative before to see if it is covered. Many do not cover Breast Reductions at this time, but it is always worth checking with your insurance.
