New interim Caddo School board member selected

CADDO PARISH, La. - The Caddo School Board selected Durwood Hendricks, Jr to serve as interim school board member for District 10.

Hendricks will serve out the remaining term of Larry Ramsey. Ramsey passed away earlier this month.

Hendricks was selected out of seven candidates that applied for the position. After the vote, Hendricks was seated immediately on the board.

The following community members also declared their interest in the seat:
⦁    David F. Cox
⦁    Mary L. Edwards-Avant
⦁    Elizabeth J. Greenfield
⦁    Jenny L. Hebert
⦁    Terri Pugh
⦁    Dock Voorhies, Jr.

Hendricks will serve District 10 until the November general election.

Meanwhile, Ramsey passed away on Feb. 10 following a long battle with pancreatic cancer. A 15-year veteran of the Board, Ramsey began his service in January 2003. At the time, he stated his goals were simple: to expand opportunities for students in Southern Hills and districtwide while also ensuring fiscal responsibility.

A fierce advocate for Southwood High School, Ramsey pushed for the Board to invest in the bio-technology program which has spurred tremendous academic growth at the campus.

Additionally, Ramsey played a pivotal role in the hiring of three district superintendents and called for the committee structure implemented by the Caddo Parish School Board today.
