U.S. Senator David Vitter was at South Highlands Elementary School this morning to host a leadership forum. The forum featured discussions on state and local curriculum such as reading lists, improving early grade reading skills, and skills training in high school. The forum was attended by local education professionals, state officials and community members from across Shreveport-Bossier area.

Today marked the first of five forums the Senator will host across the state of Louisiana.

Besides being a Louisiana Senator Vitter is also a candidate for Governor of Louisiana in 2015.

"The problems we are talking about are about the break down of the family or the problem at home or about disadvantages at home. So we need to deal with that fundamentally in many ways and we need to deal with it properly in our schools," said Senator Vitter.
