An active shooter training course involving seven agencies is being hosted this week by the Caddo Sheriff's Office. The training was coordinated by the U.S. Attorney's Office and is being taught by instructors from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center.

The course is titled "Active Shooter Threat Assessment Training Program". For several years law enforcement training gave a lot of attention to active shooters in schools. However, recent events have broadened our focus to include malls, open spaces, industrial operations, housing complexes, military installations, and any other area where even one lone shooter could cause great disruption and trauma in only a short period of time.

Participants in the course are learning how to respond to such events, and the team strategies needed to effectively work as a unit with corresponding and coordinating agencies and fellow officers.

Attendees at this training include representatives from Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, New Iberia PD, Bossier Sheriff's Office, LSUS Police Department, Cherokee Indian Reservation Police Department, Camp Minden Military Police, and the Shreveport Police Department.
