Barksdale officials are busy preparing for their upcoming 5K and half marathon.

It's the first time the base has ever hosted a race like this and since this year's air show was cancelled organizers say this will be the first time the flight line is open to the public. Major Warren Carroll helped organize the race.  He says runners will start on the flight line then pass by the Global Strike Museum's historic aircraft. Those running the 5K will then loop back to the runway. Half marathoners continue through Barksdale's
shaded streets for the full 13.1 mile run. According to Carroll it's a flat course that's perfect for showcasing all the base has to offer, "its a unique opportunity to get a look at barksdale from a different perspective, because when you're on foot and touring the base then you see things in a different light."
