Bossier Sheriff's Office deputies help kick off opening ceremonies for the Northwest Area Special Olympics track and field events.

The ceremony took place Friday morning at Preston Crownover Stadium in Bossier City.

After the parade of athletes, Sgt. Jeff Pleasants and Dep. Reigan Malmay of the Bossier Sheriff's Office rode their motorcycles to lead Special Olympic athlete Chris Beaudoin of Parkway High School as he carried the torch around the track.

Area law enforcement officers will participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run on May 16 to begin carrying the torch all the way to Hammond, La., for the Louisiana Special Olympics State Summer Games on May 23-25.
