Next to the Christmas tree itself, no other plant reminds people of the Christmas holiday season quite like the poinsettia. Over at the Ellis Home & Garden in Bossier City the poinsettias are lined up by the dozen in their garden center.

The beautiful holiday plant comes in several colors, but according to the green-houses manager,  Adam Giblin, red is by far the most popular.

And the up-keep of the plant could not be easier. Giblin says the room temperature of your home is perfect for the plant to flurish. He adds that you should not water the plant too often. Once a week is plenty, said Giblin, depending of course on the size of the pot you are keeping the plant.

And while poinsettias are not poisonous,  they should be kept away from pets, who can become ill after eating the leaves.
