Super Summer is a leadership training experience for Christian young people with leadership qualities. The time at camp is an intense week of discipleship training that helps the student reach their fullest potential as a Christian leader.
The week consists of Bible teaching sessions, worship services, small-group discussions, recreational activities by the ETBU Rec Team, and various opportunities to meet and form friendships with other Christian youth.
The overall theme for the week is "Speak His Name," based on Acts 4:20 "for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard."
ETBU alumnus Rev. Jay Abernathy and pastor of First Baptist Church of Palestine, tweeted after bringing a group from his church to the campus, "@First Palestine youth safely delivered to @ETBU for a wonderful week of #supersummer."
Some of the other churches who brought their youth to Super Summer are First Baptist of Henderson, First Baptist of Bullard, First Baptist of Bonham, Dorcas Willis Baptist Church of Trinity, North Main Baptist of Liberty and First Baptist of Linden.
Super Summer breaks down each grade division by colors and meet together as schools during the week. The Red School is for students entering 8th grade, Blue School for students entering 9th grade, Orange School for students entering 10th grade, Yellow School for students entering 11th grade, Green School for students entering 12 grade and the Khaki School for students who just graduated from high school.
The students leave inspired, encouraged and challenged to be bold leaders in their walk with Christ. The adults who staff the camp are all volunteers.
Members of the ETBU Admissions staff greeted campers and handed water out as they arrived to enter Ornelas Gymnasium for registration and crazy but fun activities to kick off the week.
Super Summer sessions have been held on the ETBU campus since 1991.
The camp will run through Friday, June 13 and is sponsored by the Baptist General Convention of Texas, Texas Youth Evangelism Division.
