A fire broke out in an apartment complex on Weyman Street in Shreveport on Wednesday morning, displacing residents.

Around 7:00 a.m. Shreveport fire crews were dispatched to the Chateau Apartments, which sit in the 2900 block of Weyman, behind the McDonald's in Shreve City.

Fire officials tell NBC 6, when they arrived on scene they saw smoke billowing from under the door of a unit in the building.

When the apartment's door was opened, fire fighters discovered a couch on fire.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire. It left heavy damage to the inside of the apartment, but did not spread to other units.

Fire officials say no one was hurt. They add the quick actions of a neighbor in the complex most likely saved the entire building from going up in flames.

Fire officials say the resident in the damaged apartment left the unit to walk across the street to Walmart. He returned to see his belongings in flames.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause.
