Volunteering is a selfless act that can make a huge difference.
Here at NBC 6 News, we like to honor those who dedicate their time and give a helping hand.
This week, we honor Robert Moncrief.
He's a volunteer with the Benton United Methodist Church.
They have a lot of servants, but they say he's one that stands out.
Robert Moncrief improves the lives of many, one bag at a time.
"I love it, I love doing it," said Moncrief.
Each month, he'll lend a helping hand at the church's food pantry, spending hours filling bags with necessities.
"Well we unload the truck on Tuesday at 9am, then we pack bags from 12pm until whenever we get through, and then Wednesday we start at 12:30pm sending food out," said Moncrief.
"Last month we had over 17,000 pounds of food come in and the men came up here and unload the food," said Rachel Stoneman.
Stoneman is the Director of Communication and Administration.
Robert helps feed almost 300 people in need.
A long day, but time well spent.
"Somebody needs to do it and I really enjoy it, helping other folks," said Moncrief.
While he's known for helping with food donations, Church officials say he's a man of many talents.
"He comes anytime he's asked," said Stoneman. "He doesn't have a set work day, and never has missed a day. I'm paid, and I see him as often as I see these walls."
Robert is only in his fourth month as a volunteer, and says one of the perks to volunteering is meeting new people.
Those who know him say the impression he makes on others, lasts a lifetime.
"We have a lot of servants here and Robert Moncrief is one of our favorite newest members that's really bought into serving the community," said Stoneman.
That's why this week's Gold Medal Giver is Robert Moncrief.
In addition to working the food pantry, you can also find him in the community garden, and doing any other task around the Church facility.
