Three school districts in east Texas don't have full time security officers at any of their campuses. That's a total of eight schools.
The Harrison County Sheriff's Office is trying to secure a federal grant. Right now Elysian Fields, Harleton and Karnack schools have minimum security.
With the grant funding the school districts would have a full time deputy. Currently the school districts hire off duty officers for security.
The grant is only for a three year period. After that the school district would have to be willing to split costs with the sheriff's office.
Sheriff Tom McCool will meet with the leaders of all three school districts to make sure they’re all on board with this plan.
