UPDATE: Gunman kills multiple people at Fort Lauderdale Airport

NBC NEWS - UPDATE:

A shooter opened fire Friday afternoon at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida, killing five people and wounding eight others before being taken into custody, the Broward County sheriff said.

The suspected gunman appeared to be shooting randomly into a crowd as panicked travelers took cover — and he only stopped when his bullets ran out, according to witnesses.

Multiple senior law enforcement sources identified the suspect as Esteban Santiago, 26, of New Jersey, and said he had a military ID on him.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A gunman opened fire Friday afternoon at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida, shooting at least nine people and killing one of them, Broward County officials said.

A gunman was in custody, local law enforcement sources told NBC News.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the shooting occurred inside an airport terminal. Passengers and workers were evacuated onto a tarmac.
