Arkansas Governor continues Asia tour

SHANGHAI, China - Governor Asa Hutchinson continues his latest trade mission to Asia.

On Friday while in China, he took a quick break from his packed schedule to update Arkansas media on how the trip is going.

He says he and the executive director of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission met with several Chinese companies who already have roots in Arkansas.

They also recruited others who are considering doing business in the Natural State.

Gov. Hutchinson has also been in talks about exporting Arkansas rice to the country. He says Arkansans can't sell the product until China does some inspections.

He's hoping President Trump's trip to Asia expedites the trade.

"It's my political judgment that they could be slow walking this with President Trump's visit, so I'm hopeful this will accelerate it."

The Governor touted that five Chinese companies have come to call Arkansas home since he's taken office.
