Bandit Run departs Texarkana

Drivers from across the nation participate

TEXARKANA, Ar - Hundreds of "Smokey and the Bandit" movie fans from across the United States departed Texarkana, Arkansas Sunday morning. 

It's all part of the Bandit Run, a celebration of the film's 40'th anniversary.

The group stopped in El Dorado, Arkansas before a scheduled arrival in Greenville, Mississippi for the night.  

James Thomas, a driver from Austin, Texas, is traveling in a 1979 Trans Am with his daughter and granddaughter.  He said, "It's been a long time, and we just want to spend some time together and make some memories, and I thought, what a better way ... Smokey and the Bandit's always been my favorite movie. "

The Bandit run is set to arrive in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday.
