Celebrate the Great American Smokeout by giving up smoking

SHREVEPORT, La. - Reduce your chances of getting cancer and developing heart problems by participating in the 41st Great American Smokeout.

The GASO event will take place from 4:30 pm. until 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16 at the Shreveport Job Corps on 2719 Lillian St. in Shreveport.

The Great American Smokeout encourages smokers to mark the date as a plan in advance to quit smoking on that day.

Quitting is a difficult, but not impossible, process. To improve your success rate, you need to know what you're up against, what your options are, and where to go for help.

There are free Programs to assist smokers to stop.  Some of the programs are Smoking Cessation Trust,QuitWithUsLa.Org, and 1.800.QUIT.NOW.

Urina F. Holt, Regional Coordinator for Southern University Ag Center, is hosting the event.
