Krewe of Centaur Grand Bal held Saturday

More than 1,300 attended this year's "A Night at the Library" themed party

SHREVEPORT, La. - More than 1300 revelers were celebrating at The Krewe of Centaur’s Grand Bal Saturday night at Shreveport Convention Center.

Party-goers from around the Ark-La-Tex were feted with an open bar, and danced the night away to the music of Chinatown – a live, seven-piece high-energy band from Dallas. Even better, breakfast was served.

Looking out at the crowd, Krewe Captain Brian Hammons remarked with some pride that Krewe members come from all walks of life, crossing barriers that often separate people. While some Krewes are comprised of one profession or advocation, Centaur is more like a mosaic made up of all kinds of people.

"We're the working man's Krewe," Hammons said. "We build our own floats. We have probably the widest variety of members – anywhere from doctors and lawyers to construction workers, teachers... stay-at-home moms. We have everything."

The Krewe of Centaur parade will be held on Feb. 3 in Shreveport, and with this year’s “Night at the Library” theme, it portends to be quite festive.
