Christus donates combat tourniquets to police

Saving lives in the field

ATLANTA, TEXAS - Christus St. Michael-Atlanta on Friday passed out potentially live-saving tools to law enforcement during this National Police Week.

Caregivers thanked officers with a meal and dozens of combat action tourniquets.  Officers were also trained on how to use the tourniquets to control severe blood loss as they're often first on the scene of major accidents.

Trauma Program Manager Nicole Fant said, "The number one cause of death from traumatic injury is uncontrolled hemorrhage, so we're trying to push these out to the officers so they're prepared and they have what they need to help control that hemorrhaging in the field."

Christus St. Michael-Atlanta handed out a total of thirty combat action tourniquets to law enforcement on Friday.
