Colleges helping flood victims in NE Arkansas

POCAHONTAS, AR - Now that flood waters have receded in northeast Arkansas, the mud covered damage has become more clear but it didn't take long for help to come from all parts of the state.

Both the University of Central Arkansas and UA Little Rock sent staff and students Thursday (5/18) to help victims clean up.

We followed a UCA group to one home in Pocahontas along the Black River as they helped a homeowner. It was evident the help was a blessing for more than just the victims.

"It kind of lifts your spirits and so you know there's hope even though there's been despair, you know that there's hope," said UCA Dean of Students, Gary Roberts.

UCA hopes to be back next week as well. It's "Boots on the Ground" project started back in 2014 during tornado relief.
