Confederate statue on East Texas courthouse lawn to stay after vote for relocation fails

LAMAR COUNTY, TX - A monument on the grounds of an East Texas courthouse will stay following a meeting on Friday.

On Friday, the Lamar County Commissioners Court held a special meeting to discuss and take action in regards to relocating a Confederate statue that currently resides on the south lawn of the Lamar County Courthouse.

Prior to the meeting, the United Daughters of the Confederacy Rufus C. Burleson 2709, Texas Division, claimed the county had already hired a crane to move the monument and did not believe a fair discussion would be had.
