Dallas man convicted of robbery, attempted rape in Caddo Parish

CADDO PARISH, La. - A Dallas, Texas man has been found guilty of armed robbery and the attempted aggravated rape of a Caddo Parish woman.

In Aug. 2014, Joseph Martin Bryant, 42, broke into a woman's home armed with a knife and attempted to rape her before robbing her of cash and running away.

Bryant will return to court for post-trial motions on Dec. 13.  

District Judge Brady D. O'Callaghan has ordered a pre-sentencing investigation and a sentencing date has not been set at this time.

Bryant also has a prior 1994 conviction for sexual assault from Dallas Co.

Bryant faces up to 50 years in prison at hard labor without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence for the attempted aggravated rape conviction.

For the armed robbery conviction, he must serve at least 10 years, and up to 99 years in prison, also at hard labor and without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
