Democratic Party gives late endorsement in Treasurer's race

BATON ROUGE, LA - The Democratic State Central Committee voted to endorse Derrick Edwards in the state's Treasurer race on Saturday.

Edwards addressed the group where he won party support and said he was proud to represent Democrats in the Nov. 18 runoff election.

With only three weeks remaining in the race, Louisiana Democratic Party Chair Senator Karen Carter Peterson said in a press release,

"Derrick Edwards is the best candidate in this race. He has a master's degree in accounting from Tulane University and a law degree. Judging by his opponent's misleading ads, I'm not even sure that he knows the job he's running for."

A New Orleans area lawyer with an accounting degree, Edwards faces Republican and former Rep. John Schroder, of St. Tammany Parish, on the runoff ballot.
