SHREVEPORT, La. - Divers continued to look for the body of a man believed to have drowned in Cross Lake Saturday afternoon.
The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. Saturday when three adults and four children were enjoying the afternoon in a boat on the lake. Two of the kids were in the lake swimming near the boat and began struggling, so the man jumped in to help.
The children emerged safe, but the man went under water, and rescue units responding to the scene searched until after sundown when it became impossible. Witnesses worked with rescue teams to pinpoint where the victim was last seen.
Shreveport Fire Department Assistant Chief Fred Sanders said agencies aiding the SFD in recovery efforts were the Shreveport Police Department, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries and the Bossier City Fire Department.
Search teams were back at it just after sunrise today, and went out in teams of three throughout the day, but late this afternoon still had not found the victim’s body.
The search will continue until the victim is found.
