East Texas man sent to prison for stealing from government depot

TEXARKANA, Texas (KETK) - An East Texas man will serve more than two years in prison for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in government property.

A U.S. district judge sentenced Jason Allen Autrey, 37, of Maud, to two years and six months in federal prison for theft of government property.

Between July 2015 and May 2016, he stole $762,000 vehicle parts consisting of Hawker batteries and Bradley Bolt-On Armor Kit parts from the Red River Army Depot in Hooks.

Authorities stated he could access the items as a heavy equipment inspector for the Dynamometer Section of the Maintenance Directorate at the depot. He sold the stolen as scrap at Tri-State Iron and Metal in Texarkana, Arkansas. He received almost $23,000 for the scraps.

Autrey has also been ordered to repay the stolen amount.
