Eighth Air Force honors special vets during on-base 8K Heritage Run

BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. - Eighth Air Force will honor special Veterans at its 8K Heritage Run at Barksdale Air Force Base.

The event will take place at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 26.
 
In honor of “The Mighty Eighth’s” 75th Anniversary, active-duty Airmen will be running in commemoration of past Eighth Air Force and VIII Bomber Command veterans. Each runner will be paired with a veteran, both local heroes who are in attendance as well as past icons.
 
Representatives from many of the major operations and eras will be in attendance. Special guests include a former WWII prisoner of war, an Army Air Corps member who stormed the beaches of Normandy, a recently awarded French Legion of Honor recipient, as well as an 8th Bomber Command troop who held every enlisted rank and officer rank through colonel.
 
All local area Eighth Air Force and 8th Bomber Command veterans are welcome to attend. A short ceremony and historic picture signing between active-duty and veteran attendees will take place prior the race.
