UPDATE: Fire kills puppy, displaces family of 8 and injures firefighter

Shreveport, La. - UPDATE:

Investigators believe a hoverboard may have caused a fire that forced a family of eight out of their home and killed one of their puppies.

The blaze broke out around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Dalzell St.

The entire family was able to escape the burning home.

Family members told fire officials that a loud bang was heard prior to seeing flames on the floor around hoverboard.

Firefighters rescued one family puppy but another puppy died in the fire.

A firefighter was also injured when he fell from a ladder.  He was treated on scene and later transported to a local hospital for further examination.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Over 11 fire units responded to a house fire in the 200 block of Dalzell at around 9:30 pm.  Fire officials said there were two adults and two children in the home at the time along with two pets.  One pet died in the fire.  Everyone else made it out safe.

Officials say the children heard a loud noise in the bedroom and they believe a hover board may have exploded, however that has not been ruled as the official cause and they continue to investigate.
