Fatal pool hall shooting suspect behind bars

Suspect turned himself in; being held on $1 million bond in Smith County Jail

TYLER, Texas - (KETK) Suspect Aquinas Dixon, 32, turned himself in to police Thursday afternoon in connection to the murder of 28-year-old Earnest Dennis.

The two men fired shots at each other outside of Pool Hall Domino Club Wednesday night. Two bullets hit Dennis in the leg and arm. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

"These two knew each other, the deceased and the suspect," Tyler Police Public Information Officer Don Martin said. "They had prior run ins with each other and we know that they got into a physical altercation in the parking lot last night prior to guns being drawn."

Police continued to investigate Thursday when Dennis turned himself in at the police department.

"People out looking for the suspect and federal authorities, and for him to just walk into the police department was like oh my gosh!"  Martin said.

Dennis was arrested for murder. He is being held at Smith County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond.

This is not Nixon's first encounter with police.

"The suspect is a confirmed, known gang member in the Texas database," Martin said.

People living near the pool hall say the shooting came as a shock.

"The pool hall is a safe place," W. Morris St. resident Barbara Martin said. "All they do is go down there and shoot pool and hang out and talk, it's all i ever see, and I've been living there for 50 years."

She calls the street quiet, but police say otherwise.

"That concentrated area has been a known issue for criminal activity over the years,"  Martin said.
