Family wants charges upgrade against murder suspects

Earl Moore's family wants suspects charged with first degree murder

Shreveport, LA - A grieving family is teaming with the Shreveport chapter of the NAACP to tell the public how they feel their family member case is being handle.

The family of Earl Moore wants the suspects to be charged with first degree murder.

The Red River parish sheriff's office says Moore was shot and killed on March 30th by Carrel and Daniel Waites, the suspects are father and son. Both are charged with second degree murder.

That charge is what members of Moore's family and the Shreveport chapter of the NAACP are expressing concern over.

The family says they were told the shooting was reportedly over a stolen gun.

They say the charges against the Waites should have been first degree murder.

Lloyd Thompson president of the Shreveport chapter of the NAACP says, "to put them in jail for second degree murder is what our concern is,  the justice may not be served on the behalf of this family, we're not saying it today that they are not going to do anything right, we're not saying the sheriff isn't going to do anything right, but at the end of the day NAACP  wants to make sure we stand with this family to make sure justice is served."

Mother of Earl Moore, Carla Moore says, "justice, justice, justice, I want justice I  want first degree murder with per meditated murder, it was a wrongful death."

The NAACP and the Moore will be holding a march for Earl Moore's life on Saturday.

We spoke to Red River sheriff Glen Edwards and he tells me that his office has the same goals as the family, to get justice for Earl Moore. Sheriff Edwards says the circumstances surrounding the case only allowed them to charge the suspects with second degree murder.
