UPDATE: Mother arrested in death of her newborn baby

TENSAS PARISH, La. - KTVE - A mother is behind bars on a first degree murder charge in the death of her one day old baby boy.

On Monday at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations was contacted by the Tensas Parish Sheriff's Office to investigate the suspicious death of infant.  

The baby's body was located in a dumpster in St. Joseph.   

As part of the investigation, an autopsy was performed on the infant and the cause of death was ruled to be blunt force trauma.   

On Wednesday, an arrest warrant was obtained for the 21-year-old mother of the baby, identified as Alicia Richard of St. Joseph.  

Richard was arrested by Louisiana State Police Detectives and booked into the Tensas Parish Jail for first degree murder.  Her bond was set at $200,000.




Louisiana State Police have released a few details in the investigation of the infant found dead in Tensas Parish.

State Police are waiting on autopsy results before they go any further in the investigation.

We are told the infant was found on Monday in a dumpster at Tensas Elementary School, this has not been confirmed by officials just yet.
