BATON ROUGE, LA - A Louisiana lawmaker has filed a bill to stop assault style weapons from being sold in the state.
State Rep. Helena Moreno wrote an op-ed piece in Nola.com saying why she was filing the bill.
The proposed legislation would allow current gun owners to be grandfathered in. If it's approved, Louisianians would have to register weapons with Louisiana State Police.
The bill is co-authored by State Rep. Terry Landry, the former head of the Louisiana State Police.
