CLEBURNE COUNTY, Ark. - KARK - A Louisiana man has drowned on the Little Red River just below Heber Springs, Arkansas.
In a news release issued on Monday, the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) says it happened around 6:30 p.m. Thursday (July 13).
A witness told deputies he heard a female yell for help and then saw two people floating in the river.
The witness was able to help the two people get to a nearby boat dock, where they began CPR on the victim later identified as Raymond Myers of Lake Charles. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
This is the third drowning this year in the county and the second drowning on the Little Red River.
The Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone that the Little Red River can be very dangerous, especially when the dam is generating.
The CCSO advises to always use caution when in or around the water, make sure you tell someone when you are leaving, where you are going, and what time you should be back, wear a life jacket, and take sufficient supplies to make your trip a safe success.
