Police in Magnolia say two men tried to run down a Columbia County deputy sheriff during an apparent burglary attempt early Wednesday at Fallin Tractor Company in Magnolia.
Detective Todd Dew said at 2:26 am, the deputy was traveling on the U.S. 79 bypass when he noticed the parking lights of a U-Haul van were on at the equipment dealership.
Police say as the deputy walked toward the U-Haul truck to investigate, two black males got into the truck and the driver deliberately drove toward the deputy and attempted to run him down. Investigators say the deputy then fired at the vehicle, which fled west on Pittman Street toward East North Street. The deputy was not injured, and his name has not been released.
Police said the suspects may be from Louisiana. A photograph has been released of one of the men police think may have been involved.
