Man critically injured in restaurant shooting

Friends report victim was protecting mother from armed robbers when shot

SHREVEPORT, La. - A young man helping his mother run the family’s Mexican restaurant after the July 2016 death of his father is fighting for his life tonight after being shot in a robbery attempt late Saturday.

According to a go-fund-me account, Juan Zuniga’s mother was walking out of El Compadre Mexican Restaurant at 502 East Kings Highway in Shreveport when she was accosted by two men who tried to rob her at gunpoint.

Zuniga intervened and was shot at least twice in the chest area. He was transported to University Health, where, according to friends, doctors removed a lung.

A blood drive has been set up for Juan Zuniga at the LifeShare Blood Center on Linwood Ave. Monday through Friday.

In only six hours, the Go-Fund-Me account has raised $11,000 of its $15,000 goal.
