Maud to seek new mayor, police officer

Recently elected mayor resigns

MAUD, Tx - The man elected Maud Mayor earlier this year has stepped down.

David Gipson cited "family circumstances" in his resignation letter.  Maud City Council President Mickey Williams is carrying out the duties of mayor until another election is held in May.  Williams is currently tasked with replacing Maud's only police officer.  He said the council will soon consider hiring two part-time officers.  Williams said, "You could actually have someone here all the time, almost, all the time.  If you don't have an officer to enforce ordinances, you can't make anybody clean their yards up or get rid of their junk vehicles."

The Bowie County Sheriff's Office will patrol Maud until a police officer is hired.
