CENTER, Texas - The Mayor of Center, Texas says the loss of Terry and Pam Bailey in a helicopter crash south of Shreveport has left the community shaken.
"Two lovely people, very kind, generous, very dedicated to the community, very dedicated to their family and their church and will create quite a loss," says Mayor David Chadwick, who has known the Bailey's his entire life.
As of Thursday evening local authorities had yet to release the identity of the 2 persons killed in the crash, but DeSoto Parish Sheriff, Rodney Arbuckle, tentatively identified the victims as Terry and Pam Bailey.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration a helicopter registered in Terry Bailey's name left the Shreveport Downtown Airport late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning and went missing near Wallace Lake. Search crews discovered the wreckage in Wallace Lake near the Caddo/DeSoto parish line Wednesday afternoon.
Terry Bailey was a successful businessmen in many ventures according to Mayor David Chadwick, including a portfolio of oil and gas holdings and land development.
Chadwick says the Bailey's, who are natives of Shelby County, contributed to countless people and ventures without fanfare. Black ribbons adorned the front doors of the Bailey's business buildings in Center. They are survived by two adult children.
"They've raised generations of family here which is always a neat part about a small community, and I think that has as much to do with their devotion to our community as anything else because it was their hometown," says Chadwick.
The National Transportation Safety Board will conduct the investigation into what caused the helicopter to crash.
