SHREVEPORT, La. - Free physicals, health and wellness information, as well as seminars on several diseases were a part of Men’s Health Day held this morning at Praise Temple Full Gospel Baptist Church on Greenwood Road.
Blood pressure tests, along with screenings for diabetes and prostrate cancer and more were available at no cost, along with seminars on topics that included cardiovascular disease, diabetes, COPD and lung cancer.
Students from LSUHSC were there to do the screenings, and also educate participants on health issues, emphasizing prevention.
A study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that many deaths in this country are preventable with a lifestyle change.
Those changes include a healthy diet, exercise and quitting smoking.
Sponsors were LSU Health Sciences Center, Feist Weiller Cancer Center, University Health, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
