Mike Johnson wins 4th Congressional District race

Johnson will replace John Fleming, who left to run for open Senate seat

BOSSIER CITY - Benton Republican Mike Johnson defeated Shreveport Democrat Marshall Jones in the race to fill the 4th District U.S House of Representatives seat vacated by John Fleming, who stepped down to run for Louisiana's open U.S. Senate seat.

Johnson, an attorney, currently represents District 8 in the Louisiana House of Representatives. He was unopposed in a February 2015 special election for that seat, which was vacated by Jeff Thompson who ran unopposed for an open seat on the bench in the 26th Judicial District.

He filed to run for the seat in September 2015, but again was unopposed.

Jones, a Shreveport Democrat, who also is an attorney, garnered 28 percent of the vote in the November election, while Johnson received 25 percent of the vote. However, Jones was the only Democrat in that race that included five Republicans.
