Minden, La. - The Explosive Services International contract for the burn chamber at Camp Minden expires after the last of the M6 stored there is destroyed but ESI wants to extend that contract.
The Minden/Webster Parish Chamber of Commerce held a town hall meeting for people to discuss their concerns about an extension.
Representatives from ESI talked about the environmental and economic impact that leaving the burn chamber in Minden could bring.
Some people are worried about bringing more explosives to the area but Cody Duke, who works for ESI said the type of job he is doing with ESI needs to stay local.
Duke said "With a local company like this it gives these guys a chance to get their hands on things, really get an idea for it and then expand."
When the M6 is gone ESI will compile a report of their work and stats from the Minden burn site and submit it to Governor John Bel Edwards office. ESI is asking for a lease through the military to continue the burn of stable materials at Camp Minden.
The decision will be up to Governor Edwards.
