Frierson, La. - New development is set to bring an economic boost to the town of Frierson.
Frierson celebrated a ground-breaking Thursday for a new residential area called Maple Leaf Subdivision that's set to bring in new jobs and people.
Located off the newly "Sweet-Life Drive", the 38 acres will turn into 15 homes. The first lot is already sold.
"It seemed like the perfect neighborhood for us. It's a cul-de-sac. It's a small community and we're used to the country life," said Rossi and Alvin Price, first lot buyers.
They plan to build their home in the next year.
Besides new families moving in, the development will add new construction jobs.
"There's about 900-thousand-dollars in the lot sales. There's quite a substantial amount of money in the homes," said Joe Deaubouef, developer, Beaubouef Properties.
The first home will the model home that will go up in the front.
"Custom homes that are energy efficient. It will be Energy Star rated homes," said Brain Smith, builder.
A natural gas site is located in the back of the development site. The Prices said they're not concerned about it close to their backyard.
"Other lots I looked at had the same thing." Alvin said. "Yeah, the newest lots are the same," Rossi said.
"That's DeSoto Parish. Folks live next to natural gas production, if you look at satellite photo it's everywhere. There's no getting away from the wells and the pipelines," Beaubouef said.
More than a dozen people from the community along with local leaders came out to show their support for the economic boost.
They plan to build another development of similar size on the other side of Interstate 49 in Frierson.
