Officers and kids become buggy buddies during holiday shopping spree

Shreveport, La. - Shreveport Police and Target team up for the department store's annual "Helpers and Heroes" program.

The Shreveport Police Department was selected for Target's "Helpers and Heroes" grant for 2017. The program was designed to pair public safety officials with community youth for holiday shopping sprees.

The Community Oriented Policing Bureau's Neighborhood Assistance Team Members applied for the grant back in June of 2017 and received notification in August that SPD would receive $3,750.00 to help make sure Santa visits each child in our area.

The NAT's teamed up with area school counselors who helped select twenty five children for the event.

Each child will be treated to a $150.00 shopping spree and refreshments, courtesy of Target.
