Bowie Co, Texas - Employees at the Red River Army Depot will be exempt from the federal hiring freeze put in place by the Trump administration.
Officials sent the request late last night on behalf of the 700 employees who were scheduled to be laid off on March 2nd.
"I think we're really comfortable with the way things are going along with the Army Depot. The process is in place, people feel far more secure it is an important part of our community and we're glad to see the reaction of the government was positive and in our favor" says the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce CEO, Mike Malone.
The Red River Army Depot is one of areas largest employers with more than 4,800 people on the payroll.
