Salute the Badge: Minden Firefighter Wesley Mandino

MINDEN, La. - Cities across the country held events on 9/11 to remember those who died during the terror attack on our country 16 years ago.

Many of those cities, including Minden, also thanked first responders... like firefighter Wesley Mandino.

"I come from firefighters. That's all I knew coming up as a kid," said Mandino.

Wesley's dad is a captain with the Minden Fire Department.

His two younger brothers are also Minden firefighters.

He's proud to serve but shies away from being called a hero for his work.

"We take pride in our job. Nobody does it for the money obviously, and it means a lot to us," shared Mandino.

It also means a lot to him to serve in the community where he grew up.

"I was born and raised here in town," recalled Mandino. "I moved off and went to college... come back to this town and always knew I wanted to come back here."

The people of his hometown are grateful he returned.

"It's nice to go out everyday when we go out to eat... go to a restaurant or where ever we're at... someone always sees us and says hi and says thanks," said Mandino. "It's special."

Wesley says even though he always knew he wanted to be a firefighter, the events of 9/11 confirmed his passion to serve.
