BATON ROUGE - A Louisiana State Senator wants to raise the minimum wage in the state to $8.50 by 2019.
State Senator Troy Carter's bill would raise the minimum rage to $8 in 2018 and another fifty cents in 2019.
Louisiana doesn't have a state minimum wage and mirrors the federal minimum wage at $7.25 an hour.
Arkansas' minimum wage is $8.50 an hour. Texas also mirrors the federal minimum wage.
The legislative session begins on April 10.
Carter's bill is also part of Governor Edwards' legislative agenda.
