South Arkansas group wants medical marijuana cultivation facility

EL DORADO, AR - A south Arkansas group of business leaders is taking steps to open a medical cannabis cultivation facility and dispensary.

The group, South Arkansas Cannabis Solutions, is currently in the process of filling out their application.

They are planning to locate in the former Therma-Flite building in El Dorado.

The building has vacant for over a year and is currently up for auction this Friday.

According to the group's lawyer, Matt Thomas, they intend to hire 100 people with jobs paying between $13-$25 an hour.

Thomas says he believes this could be a good thing for El Dorado.

"There are lots of states around us such as Louisiana and Texas that have both passed the Medical Cannabis Act and don't have any production actually in those states," he said. "The statistics are that there will somewhere in the neighborhood of 10,000 patients they expect in the first year."

Thomas says they have until Monday to turn in the application.
