Supt. of Education visits local schools

State superintendent of education, John White visits Midway Elementary. White is touring the school to see what strategies teachers are using to help students academically. Midway is one of 14 struggling schools assigned to The Caddo Transformation Next Zone. So far, White is pleased with the results he's seen since. "It inspires me and it informs me, I saw engaged students, who are learning at a high level" says White. White also visited the Bossier Parish Technology Institute and Gardens Fundamental Elementary saying he is pleased with their success. Ashley Atkins helps over see the curriculum. She says the Teacher Advancement Program (TAP) is helping the school as whole. "The tracker is a way teachers can collect data on the students" says Atkins. She says teachers meet to discuss what strategies are and are not working for students. "We have to change the perception that historical struggles mean forever struggles" says White. White says all improvements don't have to feel like struggles.
