Teen arrested for concocting whopper after shooting self

Told police multiple males in red sedan opened fire on him

SHREVEPORT, La. - Shreveport Police Violent Crimes Investigators have a man jailed for allegedly fabricating a story about being shot by several suspects in west Shreveport earlier this week.

On January 17, 2018 just before 4:00 pm, Shreveport Police responded to the 4700 block of Lyba Street on reports of a shooting. They arrived to find 18-year-old La’Gregory Burns suffering from a single gunshot wound to the leg. Burns was transported to University Health with non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives responded and began their investigation. Burns advised investigators that he and his girlfriend were walking down Lyba Street when a red four-door car drove along side of them. Burns told investigators that there were multiple males in the vehicle and they were talking to him in an aggressive manner. One of the suspects then allegedly fired shots at him striking him once in the leg. Burns advised that he could not describe any of the males.

Through the course of their investigation detectives reviewed video and collected other evidence that led them to believe Burns, a convicted felon, shot himself while mishandling his firearm. Burns was arrested at his residence in the 5100 block of Monkhouse Drive and charged with one count each of Filing a False Police Report and a Fugitive Warrant through Caddo Probation and Parole. He was booked into the Shreveport City Jail. Other charges are forthcoming.
