Texarkana, AR council votes in favor of dog ordinance

Texarkana, AR - Pet owners in Texarkana, Arkansas now have to change the way they restrain their dogs.

On Monday night, the City Council voted in favor of an ordinance that makes it illegal to chain or tether a dog to a stationary object.

A trolley system or tether attached to a pulley on a cable run would have to be used instead.

A Texarkana community member by way of New Zealand, says she's proud of the decision the council made.

"I'm really happy with the city council for considering this, we're just one city of many in this country that have taken up this course for dogs, and there are just many communities that don't" said Vivien Hibbert.

Pet owners who violate the policy would lose their dogs to animal welfare.
